Getting an album in

How do I add a shared album?

It starts in Google Photos, not in Save to Photos. Open the shared album there, tap Share, and pick Save to Photos from the list of apps. If it is not in that list, scroll the row of apps sideways and tap More, then switch it on.

The app plays a short recording of that flow the first time, and Watch How on the Add Album screen plays it again.

Is there another way in, without the share sheet?

Yes. On the Add Album screen you can Paste Link, Type a Link, or Scan QR Code if the link is on somebody else's screen.

It will not read my album

The app reads a share link. In Google Photos, use Share and copy the link, rather than sending an invitation to an email address — an album shared as a link is readable without any password, which is why the app never asks for your Google account.

Which photos will it save?

Whatever the album's scope says: Everything, From a date, or From a photo. That, and which album on your iPhone the photos go into, are both on the album's own screen in the app, and either can be changed later.

When it looks stuck

Nothing has been saved on its own

Tap Check and Save New Items. That is free, unlimited, and it always works — nothing to wait for.

Checking by itself is the paid Automatic option, and even with it, iOS decides when an app in the background is allowed to run. Automatic asks for a window while your iPhone is charging, usually overnight, and iOS can still say no. Two things make it far more likely: leave the phone on a charger, and keep Background App Refresh on for Save to Photos in Settings, General, Background App Refresh. The app's About screen has an Access section that says whether that is on.

It says the link needs replacing

When an album's owner reshares it, the old link stops working. Get the new share link from whoever owns the album, then open that album in Save to Photos and use Paste New Link. Nothing already saved is lost, and it carries on from where it stopped.

Some photos have saved twice

Skipping what you already have needs full access to your photo library — with limited access the app cannot see what is already there to recognise it. Check Settings, Apps, Save to Photos, Photos and set it to Full Access.

A photo looks lower quality than the original

The app takes the largest version the share link exposes. A shared album link does not always expose the original file, and where it does not, no app reading that link can do better.

What is paid, and what is free?

Every album, every photo, and every manual Check and Save New Items is free and unlimited, with no cap of any kind. The subscription, Automatic, adds checking while your iPhone is charging, catching up when you open the app, and a notification when photos have arrived. It is $1.99 a month or $14.99 a year, with a seven-day free trial on the yearly plan. If it lapses nothing is locked and no album goes quiet — you go back to tapping the button.

I paid, and it is not switched on

Open About in the app and tap Restore Purchases. Check that the iPhone is signed in to the same Apple Account that bought it.

How do I cancel, or get a refund?

Apple handles both. Cancel at Settings, your name, Subscriptions, or through Manage Subscription in the app's About screen. For a refund use reportaproblem.apple.com — we never see your payment details, so Apple is the only one who can issue one.

Reaching a person

Email savetophotos@frozenducktech.com. One person answers these, so give it a couple of days. It helps a great deal if you say which iPhone and which iOS version you are on, and what the album list showed when it went wrong.

If you want to send what the app itself recorded, About has a Technical details section ending in Share technical details. That is recorded on the device, and nothing in it leaves the phone unless you share it.
